Equipped with a generous extension table, the Memory Craft 6500P is very popular for quilting and home decorating projects, such as curtains. It makes it so much easier to control the many yards of fabric needed for these projects with this table to support them. Garment sewers reported favorable results as well and appreciated the excellent quality of the automatic buttonholes and programmed reverse options.

Stitches on the Janome 6500p quilters sewing machine

The decorative stitches can be edited individually or in combination. Many can be elongated or mirrored, but some testers found the number of editing options to be rather limited. (Those who are less concerned about the need to manage large cuts of fabric but are looking for lots of decorative options will be better suited by a different model.)

Block and script alphabet letters are included, but the ability to alter their size is also limited. Quilters, however, reported they enjoyed having them close at hand for labeling.

The lack of a free-arm may be a concern for some, especially those who intend to sew baby clothing or do lots of patching and mending of slender pant legs.

See the new Janome Horizon. It does have a free arm plus a longer arm. 

The bobbin winding system proved to be a real timer saver. Since it has a separate motor, you could wind a bobbin while continuing to sew on your current project. Our quilters were also thrilled to have a knee that allowed them keep their hands free for moving and supporting fabric. They loved the thread cutter, but some would prefer it on the foot pedal instead of the machine head. Once again, their concern is keeping their hands free as much as possible.

The memory and programmability made sewing repetitive stitches so easy, especially for those who had labored with older non-programmable machines. Using the LCD display, with all of its suggestions, such as which foot to use, guarantees foolproof results for many tasks.

Too valuable and too heavy to carry around, you won't want to take this machine to class. But, at home, you'll find it lots of fun to use. Thankfully the Janome Memory Craft 6500P is not priced sky-high, even though it provides many of the most useable features quilters and home decorators enjoy.
